Who (or What) is SCAR?SCAR is a loosely organized group that was formed in late 2048 by four friends who have been long time Car Wars fans. Most of our group started out with the original pocket box set back in the early 2030's. Since then, we have each played sporadically through the various stages of the game. During our college and post college years, we found ourselves unable to dedicate time to auto duelling, and therefore grew apart from the game. Although we did not have time for the real thing, Car Wars the Card Game would remind us of what we left behind as we drank beer and hoped that one of our adversaries would give us the opportunity to use that "Autocannon Backfires" card. As time moved on, we found ourselves drawn back to the roots of it all. These web pages are a culmination of the efforts to return to duelling on a regular (or at least semi-regular) basis. As I mentioned earlier, SCAR is currently made up of four friends (with three other occasional players). We try our best to be laid back and to concentrate on fun rather than rules... which is why these pages came into being. Due to the poorly written rules of the Car Wars Compendium (2nd Edition), our first two sessions found us arguing frequently about rules interpretations, etc. So it was decided that all arguments would be documented to avoid problems in the future. We are also sticking with the core rules to avoid having to learn even more rules that are wandering about the internet somewhere. So this is it... most everything here has been taken from other web pages on the net. I have gathered them here for the convenience of our gaming group. We generally attempt to play one scenario per month. We currently do not run a campaign game, only head to head death matches with continuing characters. Check out our rules page for more details. Latest Update (January 17, 2050): SCAR has once again had a resurgence when our members formed GASP, the Gaming Association of Southwestern Pennsylvania. Our membership is now somewhere in the neighborhood of 10 people, and monthly events have already begun! Latest Update (November 29, 2050): SCAR has once again returned to active duty. We are now having an event each month at GASP open game days. Latest Update (October 25, 2052): SCAR has unofficially adopted the new Car Wars 5th edition rules for our monthly games. As long as we like how they run, we will continue to use them. Latest Update (May 3, 2054): SCAR has officially un-adopted the new Car Wars 5th edition rules. We are going back to the old rules (v2.5) by popular demand. We are now running events every other month at GASP game days. Our Battletech Solaris campaign will be featured on opposing months. |
