Pool Table Duel

OBJECTIVE:
March Game Day will feature a simple, silly game. The arena will be the party room's
pool table... inspired by
DRAW's tribute to Micro-Machines. Each player has $50,000 to design a vehicle (with the
normal additional $1,000 for driver/gunner(s)). Vehicle types are limited to cars, racing
cars, and cycles as normal (basically anything that you can design with the spreadsheet).
Points will be accumulated for kiling opponents and surviving as per normal league rules.
RE-CAP:
The players were:
- Don McCalmon - Purple Racer
- Kevin Wible - Silver Austin Martin
- Dave Hartman - Lime Green Vette
- Jim Robertson - Black Lambourghini
- Curt Collins - White Porsche
- Jim Steinhoff - Blue Chevy
Ok, so once again we didn't do the Pool Table scenario since it was being used when we got
there (I've finally given up on the Pool Table duel idea). We were able to improvise though.
The arena consisted of a raised rectangular platform with the center cut out of it. Ramps led
up on the east and west sides of the platform and down from the platform into the center which
was even with normal arena floor. Points were gained by killing other vehicles (as always)
and for making it into the center of the rectangular platform.
Battle was joined quickly as Don and Curt ignored the center platform and charged directly
at one another. Jim R. and Kevin met at the botton of the East ramp while Jim S. charged up
the west ramp, dropping spikes to discourage it's use by anyone else. Jim S. scoffed at the
ramps leading down into the center area and instead took a shortcut off the side of the platform.
Cheap, but effective. He even managed to stop in time to avoid hitting the opposite wall.
With the high speeds of his race car, Don was able to take the more conservative approach of
actually using the ramps to reach the center, and eventually managed to get there. Meanwhile,
Curt circled around the outside of the platform to meet Dave in a devastating T-bone collision
which left Dave's driver unconcious.
Not to be out-done, Jim R. followed Jim S.'s example and lept over his car to reach the center.
Sitting atop the platform, Kevin had a chance to enter the center, but bloodlust got the better
of him. Seeing a nearly crippled Curt circling, Kevin drove off the platform and forced Curt
into the corner. The subsequent 60 mph ram disintegrated Curt's vehicle, but left Kevin's
armor significantly weakened.
Don "Cherry Picker" McCalmon knew that the only chance his sissy race car had to get a kill was
to take on a weakened opponent. So, he zeroed in on Kevin's front armor and destroys his engine and
driver.
Don and the two Jim's still remained, and continued to trade fire, but the time limit ran out
before there were any more casualties.
