King of the Hill

[ Objective | Re-Cap | Point Breakdown ]

OBJECTIVE:
This year's GASP-Con SCAR event will be a team event. There will be two teams. Participants will be teamed up based on their SCAR standings. First place will be teamed with last, second place with second to last, etc. Each player will have $25,000 to design a vehicle in addition to the normal $1,000 for equipping drivers and gunners.

The objective is for each team to solely occupy a hill in the center of an otherwise empty arena. Each team member gets one point for each full second that a vehicle from their team is the sole occupant of the hill. The game ends after one team occupies the hill for 4 full turns or when 20 turns have passed. If one team occupies the hill for 4 full turns, all the team members are awarded an additional 3 points. Points for kills are also awarded to the entire team rather than individuals. Each team member gets 1 point for mobility or firepower kills, and each gets 2 points for a full kill.

RE-CAP:
February's GASP-Con was our first attempt at a team event, and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, despite the overwhelming victory.

"Team USA" consisted of Dan Cetorelli, Jim Robertson, and Mike DeSensi (pictured left). The Middle Eastern Alliance consisted of Ralph McConnell, Dave Hartman, and Curt Collins (pictured right).

The teams start out evenly spaced along opposite sides of the arena... Team USA is to the South, and the Middle Eastern Alliance is to the North. Their objective is to take the hill at the center of the arena. Points are gained for each turn the team is the sole occupant of the hill.

At the start, both Dan and Jim of Team USA circle to the West and meet up with a lone Dave Hartman (apparently his teammates were off planning a suicide bombing someplace). As per SCAR etiquette, the vehicles barrel forward until Jim and Dave collide head-on at speeds that you really shouldn't be colliding head-on at. Dave's car and driver are destroyed in the process, but Jim manages to survive with the help of a ramplate, heavy metal armor, and a hell of a lot of luck.

Meanwhile, on the east side of the arena, Mike takes the hill with Curt in hot pursuit while Dan loops around to take the hill from the North side... dropping mines as he goes. With three cars approaching a small elevated space at the center of the arena, bad things are bound to happen. Curt has a minor collison with Dan at the top of the hill. The collision doesn't deter Dan, but Curt is unable to avoid the mines, and the resulting explosion removes one of his seemingly unnecessary tires. Curt does manage to get some points for his team for being the sole occupant of the hill for one turn (even if his car is just a large paperweight).

After having his way with Curt, Dan isn't finished... he charges down the South ramp again toward US territory and T-Bones Ralph who quickly sees the reason you don't design your cars with Carbon-Aluminum frames. This leaves only one Middle Eastern vehicle in the arena... Curt's mostly immobilized car at the top of the hill which threatens to win the event by holding the hill for 4 rounds. Fortunately for the free world, Jim's Black Lambourghini streaks up the ramp, ignoring his weakened front armor, and rams Curt's vehicle off the top of the hill. Curt loses another tire in the collision, and with that the victory is given to the Americans. God Bless the USA!!!
