Jump-a-thon
[ Objective |
Re-Cap |
Point Breakdown ]
OBJECTIVE:
January's GASP Game Day will feature a return to the
Federated Arena (shown right). Players should bring car worth a maximum of $30,000.
You can use the Excel Vehicle Design
Spreadsheet to make design simple. Feel free to
e-mail me if
you need assistance. If you do not design your own car, we will provide
you with a generic design, but designing your own car is certainly recommended.
This scenario will be all about jumping. Each car is required to make one jump
across the center ramps. After that, they get one
point for each jump. Kills are worth the normal 5 points. The scenario ends after
one person completes 5 jumps, 30 turns are completed, or only one vehicle remains
operable. Whichever comes first. The jumps are set 9 inches apart so that you can
make a good jump at around 50 mph. No dropped weapons are allowed on the ramps or
within 2 inches of the bottom of the ramps.
RE-CAP:
The players were:
- Lon Coontz - Yellow Hot Rod
- Don McCalmon - Funky Looking Light Blue Car
- Steve Caldwell - Red Station Wagon
- Jim Robertson - Black Lambourghini
- Ralph McConnell - White Porche
- Stan Mamula - Yellow Vette
- Dave Hartman - Light Blue Vette
- Doug - Blue Chevy
Unfortunately, January's "Jump-a-thon" did not
quite live up to its name. Players set up at even intervals around the
arena, and when the game started, they unanimously scoffed at the idea of
objectives. Instead they charged at each other with a bloodthirsty vigor...
completely ignoring the ramps at the center of the arena.
As the cars converged upon the center ramps, battle was joined. Ralph quickly
breached Dave's left side, setting him ablaze with his flamethrower.
Without the aid of a fire extinguisher, Dave aims his car at Lon in hopes
of a final coup de grace. Lon lays down fire in a desperate attempt to ward off
Dave's Kamikaze attack, and successfully kills Dave's driver. Unfortunately for
Lon, Dave's car continues onward... apparently seeking retribution for the slaying
of its master. The cars finally connect and explode into fiery ball of death
from which no one emerged.
On the other side of the arena, Don and Steve join in battle, and Don's Blast cannon
easily rips through Steve's rear armor... killing his driver. About this time, Stan
rams Ralph and knocks his driver unconcious, removing him from the game.
While the other combatants are busy blowing each other up, Jim accelerates towards the
center ramps, knowing that a vehicle must have a successful jump to win. He takes some
heavy fire from Don and Stan while airborne, but does manage to make it to the other
ramp. Unfortunately, Doug just happens to be waiting for him at the bottom of the
other ramp. Unable to stop, Jim charges head long into Doug's side and reduces his car
to scrap metal.
Seizing the opportunity, Don reaches the scene only moments later. His Blast cannon
takes its second victim... easily shredding Jim's weakened left armor and setting his
gas tank on fire. Jim makes a desperate attempt to stop his vehicle and escape, but
just as he brings it to a halt at the center of the arena, the vehicle explodes in a
most dramatic fashion.
And then there were two. Stan takes Jim's lead and heads for the ramps, knowing this
is the only chance at victory. Don attempts to take Stan out while he is in the air,
but is unsuccessful. Stan completes his jump and charges toward Don. Don whimpers and
whines in the face of a superior opponent and begs Stan to accept his surrender.
Stan feels sorry for Don and accepts his surrender, ending the game (this is also what
prompted us to outlaw surrenders :)
